The Monument

World—renowned sculptor, Elizabeth MacQueen has been selected to create this magnificent masterpiece that will reach over 30 ft into the air with flames, and a laser beam over a stainless-steel elliptical band of flowing water. The monument will be surrounded by figures of women from each branch of service in uniforms depicting their roles in various capacities as they have risen to the challenge, despite many adversities, to serve their country.

The history of women in the armed forces with be seen both literally and figuratively at the monument and our accompanying Women Veterans Museum that is being constructed across from the Monument in the old Amtrak Train Depot.

Museum

In 2018 the City of Pensacola agreed to a 100-year lease of the existing run-down Amtrak train station on Heinberg street for the Monument to Women Veterans to establish a Museum to Women Veterans. The Monument to Women Veterans will restore and remodel the existing facility and maintain the building and grounds throughout the term of the lease.

Within the museum will be both static and interactive displays of women from each branch of our military. There will be classroom areas and conference space for community education and seminars as well as a small gift shop and coffee shop. The retail operations will aid in the sustainability of the operation of the museum as well provide a portion of said proceeds for maintaining the Veterans Memorial Park on Bayfront. The new regional Museum for Women Veterans would be the first step in the process of recognizing and honoring women in our area.
